I hoped to have my post completed before today about how my transfer went last week but I was just too tired to write anything yesterday. So I'm skipping ahead to today - my beta day - and will post about my transfer later.
Last night, DH offered to go with me to my beta appointment this morning but I said there's not much point since it's just a blood draw and the whole thing would take less than five minutes. But I also said if he wanted to come with he was more than welcome. He decided to go into work early instead so that we might be able to leave work a bit early, regardless of our results, to either celebrate or be sad together.
So this is it. My first IVF beta day. I woke up at 5:30 this morning to get ready for my appointment and make the drive through rush hour traffic for my blood draw at 7:30 am. I arrived at my fertility clinic at 7:26 am; perfect timing since it's typical to be called back at my exact appointment time.
The regular tech who always draws my blood called my name. I had hoped in the last few minutes before my appointment that someone else would be doing my blood draw this morning. No such luck. I sat in the usual chair next to the window with my right arm ready for the pinch of the needle. 'Pinch.' Ha ha, that's a good one! The familiar stab came on with a vengeance. It was the worst needle stab ever from her and she even used the butterfly needle! It was piercing and painful and stinging. And I'm quite sure I'll be left with a pretty good bruise. This was the last straw. I decided right then and there that I'm going to speak with my RE about this lab tech at my next opportunity. I refuse to let her draw my blood ever again.
Now I'm sitting here at my desk, two hours later, trying not to obsess about my results. They won't call me until this afternoon (sometime between 2 - 4 pm). I'm hoping it's not during my meeting from 2 - 2:30; I'm debating whether to bring my cell phone with me. But either way, I'll update you all soon with the results. It just depends if I'm able to answer my phone when they call, and if they leave a message, I'm not sure if they will give me the results in the message or if I will have to play phone tag and call them back. And then get the nurse's voice mail. And then wait for them to call me back again. You know, the usual chain of events.
